Next Stop... Charleston!

{Charleston, South Carolina Trip Recap}

After we checked out of the Thunderbird Inn in Savannah, we made our way to Charleston, South Carolina. It took us about 2 hours to get there, including getting pulled over for speeding... whoops! We booked a room at the Town & Country Inn and Suites in West Ashley, which was only 6 miles away from the historic district. It was almost impossible to find a room for less than $200 per night this week, but we scored a great deal with this one! The room was beautifully updated and super clean!! I would definitely recommend staying here on your visit to Charleston. We also got two $15 food and beverage vouchers for each night we had booked.

DAY ONE

We got into Charleston around lunchtime. We were starving, so we stopped at Persimmon Cafe. This cute little restaurant was inside a laundromat, which didn't help us cool off any... I ordered the adult grilled cheese and it had smoked gouda, cheddar, prosciutto, and apple slices. So delicious! Branden ordered the crab which had lump crab meat, jarlsberg cheese, and garlic mayo. For dessert, we shared a nutella and toasted marshmallow custard. They use a blow torch to toast the marshmallows right when you order. Everything was delicious and I'm still dreaming of that custard...

Since my car's AC wasn't working, we were miserable in the southern July heat for the 2 hour drive. We wanted to go on a carriage ride to tour the historic district, but decided to hit up the hotel pool instead and wait to go out later that evening when it had cooled off.

On the way to the historic district, we stopped at Boxcar Betty's for dinner. It is basically a better version of Chik-fil-A. I was still pretty full from lunch but ordered fried pickles and sweet potato fries and Branden had the buffalo chicken sandwich. I wish I would have tried one of their sandwiches because Branden's was really good. We ended up walking around and exploring Charleston for about 4 hours (plus Branden really wanted to catch some Pokemon...) and got back to the hotel around midnight.

DAY TWO

We started off today with biscuits from Callie's Hot Little Biscuit. I ordered a buttermilk biscuit with sausage, pimento cheese, and an over easy egg. I also got some biscuits to take home! From there we made our way back to Waterfront Park so I could take some pictures. Home of the famous pineapple fountain and a little further away, Rainbow Row! You can even see Fort Sumter from Waterfront Park.

After exploring, I had to check out the Charleston Farmer's Market. I loved the handwoven baskets. When we were finished shopping, we were ready to go check out one of Charleston's beaches, but our day went downhill from there! We stopped to get gas on our way back to the hotel and my car started having problems. Branden drove us to the closest repair shop since it wouldn't shift gears. After sitting in the repair shop waiting room for an hour and a half, we were told it wasn't going to be ready until the next day at noon. They drove us back to our hotel and spent the afternoon at the pool. We used our vouchers and ate at the hotel that evening. We had originally planned to leave that next morning so we could make it back for a bachelor/bachelorette party, but my car had other plans!!

DAY THREE

24 hours and $700 later my car was fixed and we were able to go pick it up. Since we would have never made it to the party at this point, we decided to make the most out of our last day.

First stop, Magnolia Plantation. I am so glad we stopped here! It was like walking on the set of The Notebook... absolutely breathtaking. We toured the house and spent a few hours getting lost in the gardens. They even had a petting zoo where they bring rescued animals. Branden and I thought it was so crazy how comfortable the deer were with humans. They kept licking us and wanting us to pet them like a dog would.

It was around 5 p.m. when we were finished at Magnolia and from there we drove to Folly Beach to have dinner. We went to the Crab Shack and had crab legs! They were delicious. To end our trip we walked to the Folly Pier and enjoyed the view before heading out of Charleston. We drove for a few hours before stopping to sleep for the night. We made it home the next day!

Even though my car troubles put a huge damper on our trip, we made the most out of it and are extremely blessed we didn't break down in the middle of nowhere. We both had an amazing time and I know we will be back to Savannah and Charleston someday. If you're planning a trip soon, I'd love to help you out if you have any questions!

Now I have some questions for you...
1. Do you have any crazy travel stories?
2. When traveling to a new place what do you like to do?
3. Have you ever been to Charleston?

Until next time...
XO,
Jayna
