Georgia On My Mind

{Savannah, Georgia Trip Recap}

To celebrate 9 years together, Branden and I went on our first vacation alone together! In July, we traveled to Savannah, Georgia and then Charleston, South Carolina. This was my second trip to Savannah and I was so excited to show Branden around! We left around 10 p.m. on a Sunday night.

DAY ONE

After driving for 10 hours we finally made it to Savannah around 8 a.m. Since our room wasn't ready at the Thunderbird Inn, we decided to go have breakfast. We stopped at Narobia's Grits and Gravy. I ordered the seafood omelet, which had crab and shrimp, and Branden ordered a sausage omelette. Our omelets came with grits and biscuits. It was heavenly, especially after a long drive. I would definitely recommend stopping here for breakfast if you're in Savannah.

Next stop... COFFEE at Foxy Loxy Cafe. Since it was like 3000 degrees, I went for the large cold brew. We drove back to our hotel and our room still wasn't ready, so we decided to go on a tour. We went with Old Savannah Tours and they brought a shuttle to our hotel to pick us up. On my previous Savannah trip, I went on the historic on/off tour, but we were way too tired to walk around and explore. The trolley tours are a great way to learn about Savannah and see the city! We picked the Historic Overview Tour, which lasted approximately 90 minutes and you stay on the trolley the whole time. Branden and I loved it!

(Oldest building in Savannah ^^)

When we finally got to the hotel around 3 p.m. it was time for a nap! The Thunderbird Inn is such a unique experience and super affordable! All of the rooms are retro style and you get complimentary moon pies and RC Cola, as well as Krispy Kremes for breakfast. My only complaint was that it was outside of the historic district and we wanted to walk everywhere, so it was definitely a hike wherever we went.

That evening, we walked to River Street to have dinner at Huey's on the River. We both had the jambalaya pasta and from checking in on Yelp, we got free beignets for dessert.

DAY TWO
We started off our day at Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room. This is my mom's favorite restaurant in Savannah, so we had to give it a try. The rule here is to arrive an hour or two before they open at 11:00 a.m, so you can get a seat when they open. They are only open 11-2 p.m. Monday through Friday. We got in line around 10:15 and only waited an hour to be seated. Everything is served family style with sweet tea. Come hungry because you definitely want to try a little bit of everything! And bring cash...

We spent some time walking around and shopping in the historic district. We stopped at Wet Willies on River Street for an adult slushy. I honestly couldn't tell you what drinks we had but they were delicious! :)

We walked back to our hotel, since it was extremely hot out and decided to drive down to Tybee Island. We spent the afternoon laying on the beach and swimming in the ocean.
For dinner we stopped to get sandwiches at Zunzis. I had the Conquistador and Branden had the Godfather and voodoo flavored Zapps chips. These were soooo good and HUGE! We could have split one.

DAY THREE
Happy 9 Years to us!
I went to pick us up some breakfast and coffee at Cafe M. I got turkey and pepper jack croissant melts, almond croissants for later, and a latte. So delicious!
All we had planned was to enjoy the day at the beach and a dinner reservation at The Olde Pink House.

We managed to find a Wet Willies right on the beach and got some nachos and drinks. I did remember what these were called... the Bob Marley and Superman!

Once we got ready, we drove over to The Olde Pink House for our reservation. I ordered the crispy scored flounder and it was so good! I'd even say it was my favorite meal in Savannah. Branden had the fried lobster tails and thought the same. I was a little disappointed with the service and we were sitting in the aisle way, so it was uncomfortable, but I would go back because the food was amazing. We ended our anniversary with a night walk around the historic district and ice cream at Leopold's.

The next morning we checked out of the Thunderbird Inn and made our way to Charleston, South Carolina! We had a wonderful time in Savannah!! The historic district is beautiful and there is so much to do, see, and learn about since it is one of the oldest cities in the United States. If it wasn't already, Savannah needs to be on your travel bucket list!

Now I have some questions for you...

1. What time of day do you like to travel?
2. What is your favorite southern cuisine?
3. Have you ever been to Savannah?

Until next time...
XO,
Jayna
